In the first workshop of MANO/RAMO’s spring/summer 2014 season we will be looking at best practices for human resources management and governance. Organizations can only be effective when roles and responsibilities of staff are clearly defined and implemented. In this three-hour workshop our instructors will cover crucial topics for media arts organizations managing staff.
Topics include:
· Best practices for HR Committees
· Conflict resolution
· Retention, change management and succession planning
Instructor bios:
Jimena Ortuzar is a doctoral candidate at the Centre for Drama, Theatre and Performance Studies and the Centre for Diaspora and Transnational Studies at the University of Toronto. Her profesional experience includes labour relations and human rights as the former Chair of the Grievance Committee for the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Air Canada Component. She joined the Images Festival Board of Directors in 2010 and is presently Chair of the HR Committee.
Scott Miller Berry has been working with artist-run community based and/or not for profit arts collectives and organizations for almost 20 years. He is the Executive Director of the Images Festival, where he has worked since 2001 and shepherded many projects, tours and publications. Trained in conflict resolution, Scott spent many years as a shop steward in a clerical union and has sat on numerous HR Committees with arts + culture Boards in Toronto. Currently he is Chair the Board of the Media Arts Network of Ontario (MANO/RAMO), and sits on the Board the national Independent Media Arts Alliance (IMAA/AAMI) and Advisory Boards of AluCine Toronto Latin and Rendezvous With Madness Film Festivals. Scott holds an MA from the New School for Social Research, New York and maintains an independent filmmaking + programming practice, the latter as co-founder of the 8 fest small gauge film festival and monthly screening series Early Monthly Segments.
