aluCine is organized by Southern Currents / Corrientes del Sur, a Toronto-based, non-for-profit organization dedicated to the development and presentation of contemporary media art by local artists of Latin American heritage; the presentation of international Latino works in Canada; and the presentation of Canadian works in Latin America and elsewhere since 1992.
After 12 years, aluCine has evolved into a multifaceted media arts festival that includes video and sound installation, new media, web based art, performance video and film in its programming. aluCine presents daring and rewarding cinematic works showcasing Latin American artists living in Canada and around the world. We avoid commercially oriented films and seek out complex and multi-faceted shorts and other films that take daring approaches. Through this we transcend pre-established notions of representation and cross borders; aesthetically, ideologically and geographically with the screening of Canadian works in Latin America and elsewhere.
