Charles Street Video’s man­date is to fur­ther a rig­or­ous, diverse media arts prac­tice by pro­vid­ing artists with afford­able access to video and dig­i­tal media pro­duc­tion/­post-pro­duc­tion tools, and offer­ing cre­ation oppor­tu­ni­ties such as res­i­den­cies, com­mis­sions and youth pro­grams. Our fur­ther goals are to con­tribute to the devel­op­ment of emerg­ing artists through schol­ar­ships, to pro­vide tech­ni­cal sup­port and work­shops and to help fos­ter the exhi­bi­tion of the media arts. CSV oper­ates as a tech­ni­cal pro­duc­tion cen­tre, pro­vid­ing rentals and in-kind access to a host of media cre­ation tools. The facil­ity part­ners with grass­roots and com­mu­nity orga­ni­za­tions for out­reach and exhi­bi­tion pro­grams. CSV grew out of a pro­gram start­ed by A Space in the ear­ly 1970’s, and incor­po­rated as Charles Street Video in 1981.
