For the Jan­u­ary 2020 Toron­to Media Arts Round­table MANO and Crit­i­cal Dis­tance are part­ner­ing to frame the con­ver­sa­tion on the respon­si­bil­i­ties and pres­sures for artist-run and media art orga­ni­za­tions and col­lec­tives, along with staff and con­trac­tors for the pro­duc­tion of his­tor­i­cal records. For many artists in Cana­da entries in fes­ti­val cat­a­logues or artist-run cen­tre brochures are some of the only respons­es to their work. Dis­cus­sions may include ques­tions such as:

-How are cul­tur­al work­ers and orga­ni­za­tions work­ing to address cur­rent gaps in crit­i­cal writing?
‑How can orga­ni­za­tions and programming/curatorial staff bet­ter stew­ard histories?
‑What is the role of mem­o­ry institutions?
‑What is being cen­tred and what is exclud­ed in cur­rent practices?
