The Media Arts Network of Ontario/Réseau des arts médiatiques de l’Ontario is calling on all cultural workers and artists engaged in the media arts in Ottawa to gather for an informal discussion at Club Saw on Monday March 23. This round-table follows on a series of informal discussions held in Toronto and the November 2013 Evolve or Perish symposium. With recent announcements from provincial and national arts funding agencies many in the cultural community are grappling with uncertainty and waiting for change from above, at this time we feel it is more important than ever to build proactive responses of what the sector needs and what we expect from our collaboration with the funders.
How can organizations keep a focus on the art while priorities and metrics shift? Can arts organizations and artists drive change or do political and economic agendas beyond the sector set the agenda? What strategies can be used to build productive change for the media arts in Canada?
